From Sound Heard by Ears to Sound Felt Through Air ~ How Speakers Transform the Sleep Experience ~

Recently, information and services aimed at improving sleep quality have flooded the market.
"Sounds that make you fall asleep just by listening," "Sounds that regulate brain waves," "528Hz music" - search the internet or YouTube and you'll find an overwhelming amount of content that seems like magic for solving insomnia.
Indeed, these contents may be "sounds designed for sleep."
However, the means most people use to listen to these "sounds" are the built-in speakers of devices like smartphones, tablets, and computers.
This is doing the exact opposite of what should be done to create an environment conducive to sleep.
This is because the sound coming from these devices is qualitatively completely different from the "sound" that our bodies naturally seek.
Speakers can be broadly divided into two types. One is for "delivering sound to the ears."
The other is for "filling space with sound." Smartphone and PC speakers are basically the former - they emit "highly directional sound," and their purpose is clear information transmission and convenience at close range.
However, sleep is a process of relaxing consciousness and becoming one with the surrounding environment.
If this is the case, then rather than listening to "sharp sounds" that come directly toward the ears for sleep, it is necessary to place oneself within "sounds that resonate throughout the entire space" that envelop you.
The act of sleeping is an act of "becoming disconnected from the awakened state," and sound must also be "harmony" rather than "stimulation."
No matter how wonderful healing music or sound sources using frequencies for relaxation may be, if the speakers playing them emit highly directional, stimulating sounds, the brain and nervous system will only be prompted toward wakefulness.
